If you order from Japan to the United States, one big thing changed: the famous $800 duty-free allowance is gone. Parcels that used to sail through customs tax-free can now be charged import duty. Here’s what that means — and why, with us, your price never changes.
The short version: At Onaholestore, the price you see at checkout is the price you pay. We ship DDP — Delivered Duty Paid, so U.S. duties are already included. No CBP bill, no courier "pay before delivery" fee, nothing extra at your door.
What changed in the U.S.
For years, shipments valued under $800 entered the U.S. duty-free under the "de minimis" rule. That exemption has been suspended — first for some countries, then, since August 2025, for all countries and all shipping methods, and it was placed under indefinite suspension in mid-2026.
In practice, low-value parcels from abroad can now face:
- Import duty — a baseline tariff plus product-specific rates, applied regardless of how small the order is.
- Formal customs entry — every parcel is now classified and assessed, where before it was waved through.
- A courier disbursement / brokerage fee — carriers often add their own charge for advancing the duty.
If you buy from a store that ships DDU (duty unpaid), you receive that bill — usually a message from the courier asking you to pay before they’ll deliver.
Why it’s different when you order from us
Onaholestore ships DDP — Delivered Duty Paid. We calculate the U.S. duty, prepay it, and build it into the single price you pay at checkout.
DDP — Delivered Duty Paid, direct from Tokyo. When the new charges apply to your parcel, we’ve already covered them.
So even though the $800 rule is gone, you don’t feel it. No CBP charge, no courier invoice, nothing to settle on delivery. This has always been how we ship — the rule change just makes it matter more.
What this means for you, in practice
- Your checkout total is final. Duty is included. No second bill.
- No "pay to release" messages. A real Onaholestore order never generates one — ignore any suspicious "customs fee" text.
- Faster clearance from complete, correct product data.
- Same discreet packaging, direct from Japan.

Frequently asked questions
Will I be charged import duty or a CBP fee when my order arrives?
No. We ship DDP, so U.S. duty is prepaid and included in your order total. Nothing extra to pay on delivery.
I got a text asking me to pay a "customs fee." Is that from you?
No. A genuine Onaholestore order never results in a customs or courier fee for you. Treat it as suspicious and don’t click the link.
Does this apply to my state?
Yes — the change is federal, so it applies wherever you are in the U.S. Our DDP pricing covers the duty either way.
Why do other stores suddenly cost more at delivery?
Many relied on the old $800 duty-free rule and passed customs costs to you at the door. With that gone, those costs land on the buyer — unless the store prepays them, as we do.
The bottom line
The end of the $800 rule is real, and for a lot of U.S. orders it means new fees and delays. With Onaholestore it means nothing extra for you — because we already ship Delivered Duty Paid, direct from Tokyo. One price. No surprises. Delivered.
